Miami University field hockey hosting two LGBTQ inclusion events next week

A public discussion forum about LGBTQ issues in college sports on Sept. 30, as well as a Pride Game, highlight the RedHawks’ push for inclusion.

Miami University (Ohio) field hockey is gearing up for a couple events to celebrate the LGBTQ community and build bridges in sports.

The field hockey team of Miami University in Ohio will host a couple of events aimed at building bridges between the LGBTQ community and sports.

A panel discussion — Beyond X’s and O’s: LGBTQ+ People in College Sports — will take place Monday, Sept. 30, at the Goggin Club Lounge at 8 p.m. The discussion will be moderated by out field hockey coach Chip Rogers and will highlight the voices of:

  • Miami Univ. tennis player Priyana Kalita
  • Berea College tennis player Michael Malpartida
  • Otterbein Univ. lacrosse coach Alexis Venechanos

The team will also host its annual Pride Game on Sunday, Oct. 6, at noon when they take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Oxford.

“The Miami University hockey program is very proud to represent an institution and an athletic department that values and supports diversity and inclusion,” Rogers said. “It is a privilege to participate in intercollegiate sports, and with that honor comes great responsibility.

“Part of that responsibility includes promoting and encouraging an atmosphere of diversity and inclusion, something that is at the core of what we do. Events like this panel and our Pride game will help create and push for more open dialogue about the intersection of the athletics and LGBTQ+ communities here at Miami and in general in the intercollegiate arena.

If you’re in the area, be sure to head over to the Beyond X’s and O’s discussion on Sept. 30, and the Miami Univ. field hockey Pride Game on Oct. 6.

Outsports is a proud partner for these events.
