There’s much to be proud of in Philly this week as the Flyers pulled off a 2-3 win at home over the Capitals Wednesday on the team’s Pride Night, the third “Hockey Is For Everyone”-themed night on the NHL’s 2020 calendar so far.
Philadelphia’s infamous mascot (and arguably gay icon) Gritty re-emerged from relative social media silence with a rainbow flag to announce “Love. Is. Love” for Gritty’s first tweet of 2020, and that’s the kind of energy we endorse bringing in to the new decade.

The Flyer’s Pride-themed night is co-hosted with You Can Play, the campaign dedicated to the eradication of homophobia in sports. As has become tradition, the night also included pre-game warmups with Pride Tape and ticket packages that offered limited edition pride shirts, a pre-game Pride party and much more. All proceeds from the event benefited local You Can Play LGBTQ-focused programming.
Fans also reported that the night included intermission interviews with Philadelphia Pride organizer Franny Price, as well as spotlighting local programs that support LGBTQ homeless youth.
