NEW YORK – The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, Out Professionals and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced a public forum titled, “Home Run or Strikeout: 25 Years of Gay & Lesbian Sports.” The exclusive event, produced by nonprofit consultant Ruth Gursky, is part of the year-long 25th anniversary celebrations of Out Professionals and The Center.

Panelists include: National Sports Hall of Famer Donna Lopiano; openly gay sports writer and author Bill Konigsberg; gay rodeo star Mark Larson; co-founder of gay sports Web site Outsports.com Cyd Zeigler; author and gay and lesbian sports lecturer Pat Griffin; and Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the New York Liberty Amy Scheer. Bestselling author Eric Marcus will moderate the discussion.

In addition to providing an overview of the past 25 years of gay and lesbian athletes at the college, professional and amateur levels, the panel will talk candidly about the pitfalls of openly gay professional athletes, the effect on closeted athletes and heterosexism in the athletic world.
