Our second gymnast in the series is Fabian Hambüchen (also written Hambuechen) from Germany. He's one of the rare gymnasts who has broken through with a wide appeal in his country, being named the 2007 German sportsperson of the year. In 2004 he was the youngest German athlete to compete at the Olympic Games in Athens (he was 16), and in Beijing he won a bronze medal in the men's high bar competition. Typical of elite gymnasts, Hambüchen is a mere 5-foot-4. His favorite song is "It's Not Over" by Daughtry, his lieblingsessen (favorite food) is pizza, and his motto is "I don't have to be what you want me to be," a quote from Muhammad Ali.
Some great pics after the jump, and last year we posted a video of him diving. For some reason, despite being German and having the body of Adonis, he wears board shots. Grrrrr.
