Five current NHL players with the Calgary Flames will march in the Calgary Pride Parade this Saturday. Those players, according to the Flames, are:

Giordano has been the team’s captain for several years.

The team will also be joined by some players from the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.

Most of the time when a professional sports team takes part in a Pride Parade, it’s team front office employees and staff marching, and the players are nowhere to be found. Yet we have occasionally seen current players of various NHL teams march in Pride Parades, including Chicago Blackhawks players displaying the Stanley Cup after their big win in 2010. Other Flames players have marched in the parade in the past.

One of the things that makes the Flames particularly able to do this is that Calgary Pride is right at the start of the NHL season, with preseason games starting in a couple weeks. Still, it’s a nice statement by these five players to take time out of their schedules to show support for the LGBTQ community.
