The competitions at the Gay Games are well underway, with about 10,000 athletes competing in about 30 sports across the entire city of Paris and beyond. Most of the competitions are being held within a half-hour of Le Marais, via public transportation.

It’s been a hot couple of days across the city, with temperatures over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. That hasn’t stopped athletes from giving it their all. Various athletes we talked to set personal records in the pool and on the track in the first couple days of competition.

Crowds have been pretty sparse at almost all of the events Outsports has visited. But that’s to be expected as Parisians use August to leave the city. Various businesses around Paris have been closed for that very reason. The positive side of that is that rental rates have been more reasonable than usual, something the Paris 2018 organizers planned for, to their credit.
